About Roger
Practice Focus

Roger Cartwright is a Legal Strategist at Berry Law whose work focuses on Veterans disability matters. A member of the Washington State Bar, Roger brings a substantial background in military service and legal work to his role. His perspective is informed both by years of service in the U.S. Army and by his own experience navigating the VA disability process. He understands that pursuing benefits can be frustrating, even for someone familiar with legal systems, and values patience, communication, and practical problem-solving in supporting Veterans.

Roger believes clients deserve attentive service, and that listening is essential to understanding what they need. He approaches conversations with compassion and patience, works to identify solutions or alternatives, and aims to help clients see a way forward when the process feels difficult. He wants the people he works with to know that their concerns are being heard and that he is committed to finding a path toward resolution.

Military Service and Legal Experience

Roger served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years as a Judge Advocate, MOS 56A. His service included one deployment to Somalia and two deployments to Afghanistan. He also worked in the Army’s Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES), where he gained professional experience with the process for evaluating service members whose medical conditions may affect their continued service.

That background gives Roger a close understanding of the obligations military service places on service members and their families, as well as the importance of clear guidance when a disability process is underway. His professional experience with IDES and his personal experience with the VA system are distinct, but together they have shaped his appreciation for how challenging it can be to seek recognition and support related to service-connected conditions. He brings that understanding to his work with Veterans at Berry Law.

Service to Veterans at Berry Law

Roger says he is drawn to working with and for Veterans because they are kindred spirits. At Berry Law, he works alongside a team dedicated to serving people who served. He believes Veterans benefit from encouragement, consistent communication, and access to a deep

pool of resources and expertise. Those principles guide the way he supports clients: listen carefully, communicate with patience, and look for workable solutions or alternatives.

Roger also recognizes that seeking disability benefits can be discouraging. He has personally gone through the VA process and found that obtaining a rating could be frustrating, even with his background as an attorney who had worked in Army IDES. That experience gives him personal context for the uncertainty and effort Veterans may encounter. He aims to help clients feel understood and encouraged while the team works through the available options and next steps.
