VA Hearing Loss Calculator

VA Hearing Loss Calculator

Estimate your VA hearing loss rating and monthly payment based on your puretone thresholds and speech discrimination scores.

Find Out If Your VA Hearing Score is Fair

‍

The VA claims process is about getting the compensation and medical treatment you deserve for the disabilities your service caused. If your VA percentage is inaccurate or unfair, your family is missing out on money, medical devices, and treatment that your service and sacrifice earned.

‍

Use our Free VA Hearing Loss Calculator to see what percentage you should really get. It takes less than five minutes, and you don’t need an email to see your results.

‍

Before you Begin

‍

  • To use this calculator, you'll need your VA audiological exam results from your Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam. You'll need:•Puretone threshold values (in dB) at 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 Hz — for each ear
  • Your speech discrimination score (%) — or your examiner's note that the test was not appropriate📄 These are found on your VA Audiology Report, provided after your C&P hearing exam

‍

The VA’s system for evaluating hearing loss and ringing in the ears (tinnitus) is confusing. It uses tests that don’t look at how your hearing loss affects your daily life. Our tool helps you understand how the VA Appeal Board figures out your percentage, whether you have constant ringing or can’t hear clearly.

Why Getting the Right Percentage Matters for Your Family

Veterans try for a better percentage not just for themselves, but for the people they care about. A correct evaluation means more than just a check; it means:

‍

  • Monthly payments and back pay (money the VA should have paid you in the past) that you earned.
  • Knowing for sure that your spouse and kids are taken care of.
  • As you input your data, the tool applies “VA math” to show your potential combined rating and the updated 2027 monthly payment amount.
How the VA Calculates Your Hearing Rating

The VA uses two official lookup tables under 38 CFR § 4.85:

Table VI — Each Ear: Converts your puretone average + speech discrimination score into a Roman numeral (I–XI) for each ear. Higher Roman numeral = worse hearing.
Table VII — Combined Rating: Combines the Roman numerals for both ears into a single disability percentage (0–100%).

In rare cases, exceptional hearing loss patterns may qualify for a higher rating under 38 CFR § 4.86. A VA disability attorney can review your records to determine if this applies.

When the Calculator Isn’t Enough

‍

A tool can help you get ready to ask for benefits, but Berry Law can help fight to secure the money you deserve. If the VA said no to your request or gave you an evaluation that is too low, you don’t necessarily need more facts—you need someone to stand by your side and fight.
