Austyn K. Adams is a Legal Strategist at Berry Law whose work focuses on Veterans disability. Based in Chicago, Illinois, he brings a combination of legal training, military service, and personal experience with the VA disability process to his work. A Navy Veteran who served four years in a JAG role, Austyn understands that seeking benefits can be both a legal challenge and a deeply personal experience. His approach centers on empathetic listening, clear explanations, and helping Veterans understand the process without losing sight of the circumstances that brought them to it.
For Austyn, effective support begins with understanding where a client is today. Before focusing on the steps ahead, he wants to understand the questions, frustrations, and concerns that shape each Veteran’s experience. That perspective reflects his belief that clients need more than information about a claims process. They need someone who can explain that information plainly, listen without assumptions, and help them make sense of a system that may already have left them feeling overwhelmed.
Austyn chose Berry Law because he wanted to help Veterans navigate a process he has experienced himself. He values working alongside people who care about the Veteran community and who, in many cases, bring their own experience of military service or the VA system. That shared commitment aligns with his understanding of client service: using the tools and knowledge he has acquired to help people who need practical, informed support.
He views his role as an opportunity to give back to fellow Veterans. Rather than assuming that every client begins with the same knowledge or faces the same concerns, he emphasizes meeting people where they are. His goal is to be approachable and direct, providing an open ear while helping clients understand what lies ahead. He wants the people he serves to feel that their experiences matter and that their questions deserve careful attention.
Austyn’s four years of Navy service provide an important foundation for his commitment to Veterans. His personal experience with the VA disability process adds another dimension to that perspective. He knows firsthand how frustrating it can be to seek help while being sent in circles, particularly when the underlying goal is to regain stability and move forward with daily life.
That experience informs the patience he brings to his work. He recognizes that a complex process can become even more difficult when a Veteran is unsure whom to ask or how to interpret the next step. His emphasis on straightforward communication grows from that understanding. He aims to help clients feel heard, explain the process in accessible terms, and bring an empathetic perspective to the support he provides. His commitment is rooted in a simple conviction: Veterans deserve guidance from people who take their concerns seriously.
Austyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana State University in 2016 and a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law in 2020. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. His military service, legal education, and personal experience with the VA process inform his work helping Veterans pursue the disability benefits and resources available to them.
Austyn also earned a master’s degree in Intercultural and International Communication from American University in 2020.
