About Evan
Practice Focus

Evan Stein is a personal injury attorney at Berry Law, admitted to practice in Nebraska and Iowa. He represents people injured in motor vehicle collisions, motorcycle crashes, premises liability incidents, and other negligence matters. His practice includes cases involving serious injuries, disputed liability, insurance coverage issues, and the complications that follow when an injury disrupts a person’s health, work, family life, and independence.

Evan approaches each matter with thorough preparation, direct communication, and close attention to detail. He works to understand not only the medical evidence and legal issues, but also how an injury has changed a client’s ordinary life. That perspective allows him to present claims as more than a collection of records and bills. Whether negotiating with an insurer or litigating a contested matter, Evan focuses on explaining what happened, why the responsible party should be held accountable, and what the loss has meant to the person he represents.

Evan believes effective advocacy depends on candor between lawyer and client. He encourages clients to be direct with him -- even about difficult facts -- because accurate advice and persuasive advocacy require a complete record. In return, he strives to keep clients informed, explain the process in plain terms, and give straightforward assessments of the strengths, risks, and practical choices in their cases. He recognizes that many clients have never dealt with an injury claim before and should not be left guessing about what is happening or why.

Role at Berry Law

Personal injury lawsuits interest Evan because they combine legal analysis, writing, negotiation, and litigation with the opportunity to represent individuals rather than institutions. He is particularly interested in the human and psychological dimensions of injury cases. An injured person may lose more than physical ability or income; he or she may lose confidence, sleep, independence, or the routines that once gave life stability. Evan’s goal is to ensure those consequences are understood rather than reduced to numbers on a spreadsheet.

That outlook was influenced by his father, a physician who placed patient welfare above financial reward. Evan remembers his father objecting to doctors who performed unnecessary procedures simply because they could be reimbursed. The lesson, which Evan understood more fully as he grew older, was that professional work should remain centered on the person being served. Evan carries that principle into his relationships with clients and his approach to their cases.

Service, Justice & Advocacy

A native New Yorker raised on Long Island, Evan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps before pursuing law. During assignments in California and Okinawa, he managed and trained more than 4,000 recruits and Marines in marksmanship and field training. The Marines with whom he served -- men he continues to regard as honorable, loyal, and dependable -- left a lasting impression on him. The experience reinforced habits of preparation, accountability, resilience, and service that continue to shape his legal practice.

Background & Interests

At Iowa, he served as a student writer on the Iowa Law Review, one of the nation’s oldest and most frequently cited student-edited legal journals. He later worked with law firms and nonprofit organizations, including Iowa Legal Aid, where he assisted low-income and vulnerable Iowans. Those experiences strengthened his interest in direct client representation and in the ability of careful legal work to help people through difficult circumstances. He eventually joined Berry Law, where personal injury practice proved a natural fit for his interests in advocacy, writing, and client service.

Since law school, Evan has also worked professionally as an editor and proofreader of legal briefs, graduate theses and dissertations, and business articles. He has a longstanding interest in language and argument and is attentive to organization, rhythm, precision, and small inconsistencies that can weaken otherwise sound writing. That work strengthens his ability to analyze substantial records, identify factual and legal gaps, and present a client’s position clearly and efficiently.

Evan’s article, “Personal Injury: Navigating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Claims in Nebraska Injury Cases” was published in The Nebraska Lawyer in September 2023. Both honors are based on client reviews and reflect the importance Evan places on communication, responsiveness, and trust.

Outside the office, Evan trains in powerlifting and has logged more than 1,000 miles running barefoot, a practice he began while stationed in Japan. He also has an unabashed enthusiasm for pizza and fast food, which he reconciles with physical training as a system of checks and balances. His other interests include classic Hollywood and film noir, politics, science, and podcasts. Whether working, writing, or training, Evan is driven by curiosity, independence, and a continuing desire to sharpen his skills.
