James Reed is an attorney at Berry Law who represents Veterans and their families in disability claims and appeals. Based in Dallas, Texas, he focuses on helping clients navigate a benefits system that can feel overwhelming, slow, and intensely frustrating—especially when they are also dealing with serious medical conditions and the daily realities those conditions create. In his day-to-day practice, James fights the VA to help clients pursue the maximum compensation they are entitled to under the law, bringing persistence, clarity, and a strong sense of responsibility to every case.
James brings more than a decade of legal experience to that work. He earned his Juris Doctor from Baylor Law School in 2013 and is licensed to practice in Texas. His broader legal background includes disability-related advocacy, and that experience has helped shape a practical, client-centered approach to complex claims. He understands that effective representation in this area requires more than legal knowledge alone; it also requires patience, careful attention to the record, and the ability to guide people through a process that often feels impersonal and difficult to understand.
Since joining Berry Law in November 2024, James has become part of a team known for standing up for Veterans and fighting for the benefits they earned through service. He is especially motivated by the opportunity to remove some of the burden from clients who are already carrying enough. Rather than asking Veterans to sort through the rules, delays, and evidentiary demands of the system on their own, he works to shoulder that legal burden for them and to present their cases as clearly and persuasively as possible.
James also brings a valuable perspective to client advocacy because his commitment to this work is rooted in service-minded values rather than abstraction. He approaches each claim with the understanding that the outcome can materially affect a family’s financial stability, access to care, and sense of recognition. That perspective aligns closely with Berry Law’s mission-driven culture and reinforces his commitment to honest communication, thoughtful strategy, and relentless advocacy.
Although James did not serve in the military and has not personally gone through the VA disability process, military service has long been a meaningful part of his life through the people closest to him. His grandfathers, several uncles, and his father-in-law all served, and those relationships helped shape his respect for Veterans long before he began practicing in this field. He has described Veterans in his personal life as role models, and that respect continues to inform the way he approaches his work today.
One of the matters he finds most meaningful involved successfully appealing a denial of death benefits for the widow of a Veteran whose suicide the VA had initially concluded was unrelated to his service-connected post-traumatic stress disorder. Securing that result required careful advocacy and a willingness to confront a difficult and deeply sensitive set of facts. For James, it was a powerful reminder that this work is not only about claims and paperwork, but about helping families obtain long-overdue recognition, accountability, and support.
Over the course of his legal career, he has developed substantial experience in advocacy, disability-related matters, and client counseling, all of which support his current Veterans practice at Berry Law.
Outside of work, James enjoys hiking, playing guitar, following Liverpool Football Club, spending time at the park with his wife and two children, and cooking Mediterranean food.
