Jerusha Hancock is a Veterans Disability Attorney at Berry Law whose work is driven by both legal experience and a longstanding personal commitment to serving those who served. Based in Lincoln, Nebraska, she brings deep experience in Veterans disability law, operational leadership, and legal strategy to her role. Admitted to practice in Nebraska and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, Jerusha has spent more than a decade helping shape the delivery of Veterans legal services while staying focused on the practical outcomes that matter most to clients: housing stability, access to care, and the benefits earned through service.
Jerusha has been with Berry Law since August 2014 and now oversees legal operations for the firm while leading a team of 82 practitioners. In that capacity, she works to ensure that the firm is capable of delivering expert legal services across its Veterans disability practice. Her role extends beyond individual case work to building systems, supporting attorneys and staff, and maintaining the quality and consistency of advocacy across a large legal team. That leadership perspective gives her a broad view of what Veterans need not just in a single appeal, but across the full legal journey.
Although she no longer works with individual clients directly, Jerusha remains deeply connected to the human impact of this work. She has reflected on the importance of cases in which Veterans facing homelessness were able to secure stable housing and gain access to the care they needed for service-connected conditions. Those outcomes illustrate the broader significance of Veterans disability advocacy and help explain the seriousness with which she approaches both leadership and legal operations.
Jerusha’s commitment to Veterans is rooted in family history and a personal sense of responsibility. Her father is a Vietnam Veteran, and her family’s tradition of service spans multiple generations. Her great-grandfather served in the First World War and received the Distinguished Service Cross. Her grandfather served in World War II. She has said that ensuring Veterans have access to the benefits they earned is her way of serving in return. That perspective continues to guide her work at Berry Law.
Jerusha has long believed that law is a way to take an active role in helping people solve difficult problems. Her background in counseling and healthcare access has also given her a practical understanding of the systems Veterans must navigate, which has informed both her case strategy and her leadership approach. She is known for going the extra mile, thinking creatively, and remaining committed to the fight until victory is declared.
That educational path reflects a career built on both advocacy and a desire to help people directly. Her counseling background, in particular, adds another dimension to the empathy and systems-awareness she brings to Veterans disability work.
Outside of her professional role, Jerusha is married and lives with three cats. She enjoys reading both fiction and nonfiction, cooking, watching television and movies, and hiking. She brings to her work the same steadiness, curiosity, and commitment that shape the rest of her life.
