About Justin
Practice Focus

Justin Bignell is a Veterans Disability Attorney at Berry Law with more than a decade of legal experience, and a practice dedicated to helping former service members pursue disability benefits through strategic, evidence-driven appeals. A U.S. Army Veteran, he brings firsthand understanding of military service and of the frustration many Veterans experience when dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs. His work focuses on identifying errors in VA decisions, uncovering overlooked evidence, and correcting inadequate development so clients can present the strongest possible case for the benefits they earned.

Role at Berry Law

At Berry Law, Justin represents Veterans in disability appeals at every stage of the process. He approaches each matter with the belief that many denials are not the end of the road, but the product of missing evidence, incomplete development, or legal and factual issues that can be corrected with the right strategy. That perspective shapes the way he works with clients: translating frustration and confusion into a clear plan, building a persuasive record, and helping Veterans understand what the VA is actually looking for in a successful claim. As part of a firm devoted to serving those who served, he contributes to a team that combines disciplined legal advocacy with a strong sense of mission.

Service to Veterans

Justin’s commitment to this work is deeply personal. He served in the Army from 2005 to 2010 as a Multiple Launch Rocket Systems Crewmember, deploying to Iraq and throughout East Africa before separating as a sergeant. That background gives him direct appreciation for the demands of military life and the lasting effects service can have long after a Veteran returns home. His connection to the work became even more personal after he went through his own VA disability appeal. Navigating that process himself and ultimately receiving a 100 percent disability rating reshaped his professional path and reinforced how important it is for Veterans to have advocates who understand both the law and the system from lived experience. He knows how technical, slow, and discouraging the process can feel, and he uses that knowledge to guide clients with both candor and persistence.

Background & Interests

After leaving the military, Justin earned his law degree from Washburn University School of Law and began his legal career as a prosecutor. That role gave him a strong foundation in litigation, case analysis, and the disciplined evaluation of facts and evidence—skills that continue to shape his Veterans law practice today. He now uses that background to scrutinize VA decisions, identify weaknesses in adverse findings, and build appeals that are grounded in both the record and the realities of his clients’ service. His military experience, courtroom training, and personal navigation of the VA system together give him a perspective that is both practical and mission driven.

Outside of work, Justin enjoys bass fishing and crafting lures, pursuits that reflect the patience, precision, and focus he brings to his practice.
