Mike Wilson is Senior Counsel II at Berry Law and a trial-tested attorney whose Veterans Administration practice is defined by vigorous advocacy, disciplined legal analysis, and a strong record of results in high-stakes matters. With more than 18 years of trial and appellate practice in both state and federal courts, Mike has built a reputation for defending clients aggressively and strategically at every stage of a case. He believes every person has a right to vigorous representation, and that belief is reflected not only in the arguments he advances, but in the outcomes he has secured in courtrooms and appellate courts across the country.
Prior to his Veterans Administration practice, Mike’s experience includes victories in both federal and state criminal jury trials, as well as successful criminal appeals before the Nebraska Court of Appeals and the Nebraska Supreme Court. His work demonstrates a command of complex constitutional and statutory issues, careful issue-spotting, and the persistence required to challenge the government effectively. While a criminal defense attorney, he was especially known for developing and winning Fourth Amendment arguments that prevent unlawfully obtained evidence from being used against his clients. In some cases, those arguments resulted in the dismissal of criminal charges before trial. In others, Mike’s appellate arguments have led to convictions being overturned on appeal. Those outcomes reflect not only technical legal skill, but a willingness to research deeply, prepare meticulously, and press every viable argument available to protect a Veteran client’s rights.
At Berry Law, Mike is a member of the firm’s Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims team. In that role, he brings substantial trial and appellate experience to appeals that often require both a strong understanding of the law and long-range strategic thinking. He has attributed many of his trial-level and appellate wins to relentless research, thorough preparation, and clear, well-written arguments. That combination of work ethic and precision shapes the way he approaches every Veteran’s disability claims. Whether arguing a constitutional or statutory issue, preparing for arguments to the Court, or briefing an appeal, Mike focuses on building the strongest possible legal position and giving Veterans the most effective representation available under the law.
Mike’s membership in Berry Law’s Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims team also reflects the value he brings to Berry Law as part of a broader team of advocates committed to serious, high-level representation. His background allows him to navigate both the practical realities of appellate litigation and the fine-grained legal questions that can determine the outcome of an appeal. For Veteran clients, that means representation informed not only by courtroom experience, but also by an appellate practice perspective and a willingness to challenge assumptions, scrutinize procedure, and hold the Veterans Administration to its obligations.
Some of Mike’s most notable successes have come from appellate litigation in the areas of both Veterans disability law and criminal defense. Both criminal and Veterans’ appeals demand exceptionally careful factual analysis, close reading of case law, and strong briefing skills. Mike has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to identify the most important issues, develop them effectively, and turn them into meaningful results for his Veteran clients. His work in this area underscores a larger professional pattern: careful legal research, exacting preparation, and advocacy built on substance rather than shortcuts.
Across more than a decade and a half of practice, Mike has shown that effective representation of Veterans depends on far more than courtroom presence alone. It requires preparation, disciplined writing, and the ability to see how legal issues will unfold from lower level practice through appeal to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and beyond. That is the perspective he brings to Berry Law and to every Veteran he represents.
