Sarah McIntosh brings more than two decades of legal experience to her work advocating for Veterans at Berry Law. Based in Lawrence, Kansas, she focuses on helping former service members navigate the disability claims and appeals process with clear strategy, careful legal analysis, and strong written advocacy. Her practice includes reviewing claim files, preparing case plans, communicating with clients about the path forward, and drafting appeals before the Regional Office, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Sarah is especially driven by the opportunity to help Veterans obtain service connection after prior denials or years of frustration, and she approaches each case with the understanding that a successful outcome can materially change a client’s life.

Sarah’s work is grounded in a deep commitment to justice and respect for the people she serves. Although she is not a Veteran, military service has long been part of her family story, and that connection informs the seriousness and gratitude she brings to representing Veterans. She understands that many clients come to Berry Law after difficult experiences with a system that can feel impersonal, technical, and discouraging. Her goal is to provide thoughtful legal guidance that helps clients feel both informed and genuinely supported while building the strongest possible case for benefits under the law.

Role at Berry Law

Since joining Berry Law in April 2025, Sarah has devoted her practice to advancing the firm’s mission of serving those who served. At Berry Law, she contributes to a team known for focused advocacy, disciplined case development, and a strong commitment to Veterans and their families. In her day-to-day work, Sarah combines detailed file review with practical communication, helping clients understand where their case stands, what arguments are available, and how an appeal can be positioned for success. That blend of precision and empathy reflects the kind of representation Berry Law strives to deliver across the firm.

What Sarah finds most rewarding is helping Veterans secure recognition and compensation after prior attempts have fallen short. She is motivated by the reality that a well-developed appeal can do more than change a file status. It can provide financial stability, validate the effects of service-connected conditions, and restore confidence to someone who has spent years trying to be heard. That perspective shapes the care she brings to each matter and reinforces her commitment to developing arguments that are both legally sound and personally meaningful to the client behind the claim.

Service to Veterans

Sarah chose to serve Veterans at Berry Law because of a deep commitment to justice for those who have served the country. She views this work as a meaningful way to stand behind Veterans whose sacrifices are too often followed by unnecessary administrative obstacles. Her practice is centered on helping clients move through those obstacles with stronger advocacy, clearer strategy, and the benefit of experienced counsel at critical stages of the process.

That sense of purpose is reinforced by the results she hopes to help clients achieve. For Sarah, one of the most meaningful parts of the work is seeing a Veteran finally obtain service connection or benefits after prior failures in the system. Those moments reflect not only legal success, but also the importance of persistence, preparation, and advocacy that treats every case as significant.

Background & Interests

Early in her legal career, she clerked for the Honorable Patricia D. Steele, an experience that helped shape her analytical approach to legal writing and case development.

Sarah has also remained active in the legal profession through involvement with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Kansas Women Attorneys Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Her professional and service record includes recognition on the Pro Bono Service Honor Roll from 2023 through 2025, current service in her community as a volunteer with the Audio-Reader Network, and earlier work as an adjunct lecturer at Wichita State University. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and dachshund, hiking, playing tennis, and traveling.
