Taylor Finke is a Veterans Disability Attorney at Berry Law whose practice centers on helping former service members pursue the benefits they earned through military service. Based in Lincoln, Nebraska, she brings a writing-driven, detail-oriented approach to Veterans disability advocacy and is particularly focused on deconstructing VA rating decisions, identifying weaknesses in the agency’s reasoning, and developing effective appeals. Taylor scrutinizes VA examinations to determine whether they are adequate and well-reasoned and, when they are not, argues for the corrective development needed to give Veterans a fair opportunity to prevail.
Taylor has built her work around careful written advocacy and a determination not to give up on the people she represents. She has said that day to day, she writes—reviewing the VA’s arguments, preparing appeals, and fighting back against unsupported conclusions in the record. That work reflects both her legal skills and her deeper reason for joining Berry Law: a conviction that it is shameful what hoops many Veterans are forced to go through to obtain the benefits they already earned. Taylor approaches that system with vigilance, persistence, and a sincere concern for the lives behind each claim.
One especially meaningful moment in her practice came when a client sent her a letter and a family photo after she helped him obtain a 100% rating. He wrote that the result allowed him to prioritize his health and better support his family. Taylor keeps the photo on her wall as a reminder of why she and her colleagues fight the VA every day. For her, cases like that are about far more than legal outcomes alone. They are about dignity, stability, and making sure a Veteran is not left behind by a system that too often feels indifferent.
Although Taylor is not a Veteran herself, military service is deeply woven into her family’s history. Her grandfather, Don Christensen, served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Her cousin Eric Christensen served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Iraq War, and her cousin Kevin Gaspers served in the U.S. Air Force and was killed in the line of duty in Iraq. Her brother, Josh Finke, is an Air Force Veteran and currently serves in the Air National Guard. Those family connections have given Taylor a personal appreciation for both the sacrifices of service and the burdens that can follow it.
She has emphasized that she cares about every Veteran she speaks with and emails—not just their claims, but their lives more broadly. Her goal is to make sure each Veteran is taken care of in a system that may have tossed them aside, and that commitment shapes the empathy and intensity she brings to her work. She wants clients to know they have an advocate who will not stop paying attention, even when the process feels exhausting or unfair.
Her academic honors include the Student Award for Outstanding Impact through Pro Bono Service in 2024, CALI Excellence for the Future in Copyright in 2022, and recognition as a Schmid Honor Scholar in 2023. During law school, she also developed a strong commitment to service work and legal writing, foundations that continue to shape her advocacy today.
Outside of work, Taylor is an avid reader with a home library of roughly 360 books and always has a recommendation ready for friends. A born-and-raised Nebraskan, she roots for the Cornhuskers in most everything, though she remains a Pittsburgh Penguins fan at heart. She also writes in her free time and hopes to publish a novel one day. Her love of reading and writing mirrors the persistence and creativity she brings to every appeal she handles for Berry Law’s clients.
