Thomas “T.J.” Kroh is a VA-accredited Veterans Disability Attorney at Berry Law who focuses on appealing unfavorable Department of Veterans Affairs decisions and helping former service members secure the benefits they earned through service. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, he brings a practical, rules-driven approach to Veterans law and believes that successful advocacy often depends on understanding not only the facts of a claim, but also the regulations the VA is required to follow. T.J. is especially motivated by the challenge of identifying where the system has failed a Veteran and building the legal path necessary to correct it.
T.J. has described one of his greatest strengths as learning the rules thoroughly and recognizing when the VA is not applying them correctly. That perspective shapes the way he approaches appeals. He understands that many Veterans face an uphill battle not because their claims lack merit, but because the governing standards are misunderstood, inconsistently applied, or not applied at all. For that reason, his work centers on careful review of VA decisions, identification of the obstacles holding a client back from the rating they deserve, and persistent advocacy aimed at securing the full compensation available under the law.
T.J. brings approximately six years of experience to his work with Veterans and has built a reputation for helping clients pursue the benefits they deserve through determined appellate advocacy. He has said that he helps Veterans by appealing VA decisions and fighting to obtain the compensation they earned, and that every day of this work matters because it allows him to serve people who have sacrificed so much for the country. That mission-driven perspective aligns closely with Berry Law’s broader commitment to serving those who served.
T.J. has reflected on how meaningful it is to hear from Veterans after a significant award and learn that they were able to become debt-free, buy a new truck, or purchase their first home. Those moments underscore the real-world importance of disability compensation and reinforce the purpose behind his practice. They also reflect the client-centered mindset he brings to each case: success is not measured only in legal terms, but in what a favorable result allows a Veteran and their family to do next.
T.J.’s commitment to Veterans is also personal. Although he is not a Veteran himself, he grew up in a military family and has long been surrounded by military culture. His father served in the Air National Guard, and his family’s record of service stretches back generations. That background helped shape his respect for military service and his desire to build a practice that directly benefits Veterans. He has said that working with Veterans is a passion for him and that he genuinely cares about his clients.
T.J. approaches difficult cases with optimism, honesty, and a willingness to find creative solutions. He believes even challenging matters can be won through teamwork, determination, and careful legal thinking. He also values building trust with clients and encourages open, honest relationships so Veterans feel confident not only in the strategy of their case, but in the attorney guiding them through it.
During law school, he received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in International Law and National Security Law, an honor awarded to the highest-scoring student in a course.
Outside of work, T.J. is happily married and the father of one daughter. Although now based in St. Louis, he remains a loyal fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and Blues. He also enjoys traveling and, in his free time, shooting sports. Those personal details add to the picture of an attorney who brings both dedication and approachability to his work on behalf of Veterans.
