Will Smith is a Veterans Disability Attorney at Berry Law whose practice is focused on helping former service members pursue the benefits they earned through military service. Based in Cobb County, Georgia, he brings to this work both legal experience and firsthand knowledge of military life. He represents Veterans in disability claims and appeals with a perspective shaped not only by years of legal advocacy, but also by his own experience navigating the VA process. Will believes that every person who served this country has the right to seek benefits, regardless of the role they held in uniform, and he approaches each case with that same fundamental sense of respect and conviction.
At Berry Law, Will works closely with Veterans to understand their experiences, what they are going through, and what they need from the process. He has said that these conversations are central to his practice because they help him build stronger cases while also ensuring clients feel heard. He sees the work at Berry Law as more than a job. In his view, the firm’s attorneys, legal assistants, and case managers share a genuine passion for helping Veterans get the benefits they deserve, and that sense of mission is part of what drew him to the firm.
Will also knows from personal experience that the VA process can be frustrating and slow-moving. He has described it as a waiting game that can be difficult even with strong support, and he has said he could not imagine going through it alone. That understanding influences how he serves clients now. He works to be the kind of advocate who can take over the wheel, reduce uncertainty, and help clients feel that someone capable is fighting beside them.
Will is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 1996 to 2000 in the infantry as part of Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) Company. He deployed to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe and attained the rank of sergeant. His military service taught him that a person can make it through anything with the right state of mind. That lesson continues to shape the way he approaches both life and legal work.
As a Veteran himself, Will understands the emotional and practical relief that can come when someone finally gets the benefits they have earned after years of frustration. He has said that some of the most rewarding moments in his practice are helping Veterans who have been “banging their head against the wall” finally get results. He knows from the other side of the process how good it feels to have someone take over and guide the claim toward a just outcome.
During law school, he served as President of the Mock Trial team, participated in Moot Court, interned with the Fulton County Solicitor’s Office, and—under Georgia’s Third-Year Practice Act—tried multiple bench and jury trials. After graduating, he opened his own law firm and spent the next fifteen years practicing criminal defense, civil litigation, and nursing home malpractice throughout Georgia. During that time, he gained substantial courtroom experience through numerous jury and bench trials and developed a strong record of advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Outside of work, Will is an avid reader and writer who enjoys exploring the mountains and tending a barbecue smoker. He and his wife reconnected later in life after having attended the same high school years earlier, and he is a proud stepfather to three children, a role he values deeply. Together, those personal interests and experiences shape a worldview that is curious, grounded, and committed to building things that last—qualities he also brings to his advocacy on behalf of Berry Law’s clients.
