About Zachary
Practice Focus

Zachary C. Hellen is a VA Disability Attorney whose practice is centered on helping Veterans pursue the benefits they have earned through military service. He focuses on VA disability matters with an emphasis on careful legal analysis, strong written advocacy, and a client-centered approach that recognizes how much is at stake in every claim and appeal. Licensed in Texas and admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, Zachary brings a disciplined and service-driven perspective to his work on behalf of former service members and their families.

From the outset of his legal career, Zachary has approached Veterans law as more than a technical area of practice. He understands that disability claims and appeals often affect a Veteran’s financial security, medical stability, and day-to-day quality of life. That understanding shapes the way he works with clients. He aims to be thorough in the development of every case while also remaining approachable and responsive so Veterans feel heard, informed, and supported throughout the process.

Role at Berry Law

At Berry Law, Zachary is part of a team committed to serving those who served. He was drawn to the firm because of its identity as an organization built by Veterans, for Veterans, and because of its clear commitment to putting clients first. In his view, effective representation requires more than legal knowledge alone; it requires a genuine respect for military service and an unwavering commitment to helping Veterans navigate a system that can feel complex and overwhelming.

That philosophy aligns closely with the way Zachary practices. He sees each appeal not as a routine file, but as a matter that may materially change a Veteran’s life. He is motivated by the opportunity to help clients obtain the compensation and support the law provides for service-connected conditions, and he values Berry Law’s client-centered systems for keeping Veterans informed about the status of their claims. By combining attentive advocacy with a process designed to keep clients updated and engaged, he works to deliver both strong legal representation and an exceptional client experience.

Service to Veterans

Serving Veterans is deeply personal to Zachary because he is a Veteran himself. He has served in the United States Air Force since 2019 and has been stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Goodfellow Air Force Base, and Offutt Air Force Base. His military background gives him firsthand insight into the commitment that service members make when they take the oath to defend the country and place duty above personal convenience and comfort.

Zachary believes that every Veteran, whether they served overseas or stateside, answered that call in a meaningful way and deserves to be treated with dignity when seeking earned benefits. He has seen how service-connected conditions can make ordinary life more difficult and how too many Veterans delay seeking the benefits and resources available to them. Those realities reinforce his commitment to advocacy. Although he has not personally gone through the VA disability claims process, his own military service gives him a strong appreciation for the sacrifices Veterans make and for the importance of ensuring they receive every benefit to which they are entitled under the law.

Background & Interests

His record of excellence also reflects a longstanding pattern of discipline and leadership beyond the classroom. In the Air Force, he earned recognition including NCO of the Quarter, Airman of the Quarter, and USAF Basic Military Training Honor Graduate. Together, his academic accomplishments, military service, and legal credentials reflect the focus and work ethic he brings to representing Veterans. At Berry Law, Zachary applies that background to advocate for clients in VA disability claims and appeals with the professionalism, care, and sense of mission that have defined his career.
